I want an opinion from someone who is knowledgeable about fitness or worksout! Serious answers only plz!?
Kay, I’m 5ft8, 150lbs and sedentary. After I graduate, it is my determination to lead a healthy and fit lifestyle. My goal is to not be skinny, but not bulky either. I guess you could call it ripped. I want to be buff but fast! I don’t start fights but I want to beable to end them (I’ll be studying Krav Maga as well). With this in mind, what do you recommend? I was thinking 155lbs with 5%body fat. Is that good? Shoud I get bigger? Smaller?
You should only consider taking Krav Maga if you already familiar with martial arts. Its no joke. At the martial arts studio I used to go to, over half of the students in Krav Maga quit – and most were already black belts in one or more other schools of martial arts.
As far as dieting the only main thing that stands out to me is the word you used to describe yourself – sedentary. I hear that and I think lazy or couch potatoe. What that means is that you’re really good at practicing behaviors of a sedentary life style and not so good at practicing behaviors of a healthier life style.
Point is, approach this life style change with a realistic mind. Its going to take dedication and real work to get the body you want. It is do able. But don’t just dive into some crazy martial arts used to train Israeli commandos and an equally crazy diet/exercise plan. It just won’t work. You’ll eventually drop out.
Take small steps that lead up to a bigger goal. As far as working out, it sounds like you don’t need a whole lot of weight lifting and body building but more toning and conditioning. So for every hour of cardio and conditioning, you probably only need 20 minutes of weight lifting. At least to start. My advice is that you start out doing basic cardio – jogging, swimming, kick boxing etc etc. Start by doing at least 20 minutes of exercise a day, six days a week and increase this by 10 minutes each week. Once you’re doing an hour’s worth of exercise a day, then add in 20 minutes of weight lifting too. Don’t just focus on one area. Focus on all major muscle groups: Arms, legs, chest, abs.
Push ups and sit ups too. Not just 100 here and 100 there but hundreds a day can make up for a work out too.
Getting bigger or smaller is really up to you. The point of being "healthy" isn’t about either. Its about living a life style that promotes a better quality of health.
